The SBI detained a criminal group at the Dnipro Police Department in Kyiv

The State Bureau of Investigation reported the detention of a criminal group in the Dnipro Police Department of the National Police in Kyiv, which was engaged in extortion and obtaining illegal benefits from entrepreneurs.

According to a report on the SBI website, the investigation established that the suspected officers of the Dnipro Police Department of the National Police in Kyiv acted in collusion with other police officers and demanded illegal benefits from the citizen. For money, law enforcement officials promised not to prosecute the victim or to create artificial obstacles to amber activities, which are legally processed and used in construction work. Subsequently, the law enforcement agencies received funds.

At this stage of the investigation, the suspicion was reported to the 41-year-old Sector commander and to the 24-year-old and 37-year-old operative commissioner of the Dnipro Police Department of the National Police in Kyiv in extortion and obtaining an unlawful benefit (art. 368, para. 3, of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The penalty provided for under the article is deprivation of liberty for a period of 5 to 10 years, with forfeiture of the right to hold certain posts or engage in certain activities for a period of up to 3 years, with confiscation of property.

“SBI investigators conducted searches at the Dnipro Police Department of the NPU in Kyiv and its territorial department. During the searches, mobile phones, computers, draft records and other physical evidence were seized. So far, law enforcement officers have been notified of the suspicion, handed a motion to choose a measure of restraint and removal from office. The issue of notification of suspicion to other participants in the criminal proceedings is being resolved,” – the SBI website says.
