Institute for Civil Society Development to honour dedicated activists

Ukraine has introduced a new award for public figures – the Order of the KIND HEART. It will be awarded to self-sufficient Ukrainians who do good deeds and are engaged in the development of civil society in Ukraine.

The award was initiated by the organisers of the Good Deeds Forum, the Golda Meir Institute for Civil Society Development, with the support of Alliance Bank.

«How much can this small phrase “a kind heart” say? For every spoken word, in our opinion, there should be some action, otherwise it will just be words spoken into the void! Such serious phrases as a merciful person, pure love, virtue, kind heart, should not be just uttered into the void. Nowadays, there are many people about whom it is easy to say that they have a kind heart. It is they who unite the forces of society, because a good heart responds to someone else’s pain and need. A good heart is reliable, it will not betray or abandon you in a difficult moment”, — the initiators of the KIND HEART Order say.

The unique award will be presented to its recipients on December 10, 2021 during the first Good Deeds Ball in Ukraine, which will take place in a very symbolic place — Mezhyhirya National Park.

The Order of Kind Heart will be awarded to 11 participants of the previous Good Deeds Forums, of which six have taken place over the past two years. Each time, the Forum brings together people who develop civil society in Ukraine through their good deeds on a daily basis. For these people, good deeds have become the meaning of life. In addition to the Order, the organisers will also present the Badge of Honour. The worthy among the worthy were selected by secret ballot.

According to the organisers, they plan to make the KIND HEART Order an annual event.

It should be noted that the award depicts a pelican, as in ancient times this bird was considered a symbol of self-sacrifice and selfless work, dedication and love for one’s neighbour. The legend of the pelican sacrificing itself to save its offspring has survived for centuries and has survived to this day. In various religions, the pelican has become a symbol of the highest selflessness and kindness.
