Witness: a resident of Buchi was shot for speaking and his family’s three houses were blown up

These three burned-out houses stand in Bucha at the corner of Vokzalna Street, where a column of  Russian military equipment was hit in the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and Yablonska Street, where 36 civilians were killed during the month of Russian occupation. Among these victims of the Russian invasion is Mrs. Iryna’s husband Oleg.

«This is my cousin’s house… Principally I don’t go here, a murdered woman was lying here. My husband  was killed there, on the corner. They took him out, separated him, put him on his knees, laid him down  and shot him in the head with a machine gun. He lay there for a month», – the woman said. 

«And for what? Although, of course, we won’t find out, for sure, why», – the journalist  asked a clarifying question.

«And for what, you have to ask them. Because the person was silently  taken out of the yard, without any  explanation, without anything. They just took it and shot him in the head», – says Iryna.

«Maybe because he was a man?», – the journalist continues, since there was already information about  such shootings in Buchi.

«Probably because he spoke Ukrainian», – the woman answered.

Iryna allowed to go to her yard, where she told how her husband was taken out of the yard to be shot.  And also about the fact that after returning from the evacuation, they discovered the corpse of a young  guy in the yard.

«Look, they (Russian soldiers – Editorial) tried so hard to enter here. Then they threw a grenade through  the window. And we were in the father’s part of the house with my husband. They started  firing, we went out into the yard, the house was on fire. Oleg ran to try to extinguish it, his father  followed him. When I went (to the yard – Editorial), his things were lying there and I saw that he was  already lying dead there. They are his sections to the waist. Maybe they were looking for a tattoo – there  were no tattoos. My brother and I thought to ourselves that maybe it was because his hands were burned  – he worked as a welder. Father only heard what he said: «Guys, what are you  doing?». And that’s all… And then my father and I were kicked out. Later (after returning to  the liberated Bucha – Editorial) we still found a ring from a grenade – we threw a grenade into my  father’s house. Because everything is burnt – you can go and see. Everything burned to the  ground», – said a woman who lost her family, house, and all her belongings along with documents in one day.

To the journalist’s clarifying question, whether they were Russians, or perhaps the inhabitants of Bucha  Kadyriv were treated this way, the woman answered:

«You know, I can’t say that. Father, for some reason, says that these are the Kadyriv people. I do not  know. Well, not narrow-eyed, but dark-skinned. Their accent was not typical Russian. Maybe it’s black, I  don’t know, honestly… The guy was still lying there later. A month later, when we returned here (after  the expulsion of the Russian army from Buchi – Editorial), ours were still not there, we immediately  came here. Oleg was lying here, many more were lying here… The gate was closed, the gate was closed  from the inside. I looked into the crack and saw that someone was lying there. Then I went through my  father’s part and saw a young boy with a small leg. Here, journalists were with experts. They looked – his blouse was very small. Maybe he was 15 years old. I don’t know… I don’t know why they killed him», – the woman said.

It is known that 422 civilians were killed in Buchi during the Russian occupation.

The analysis of satellite images by the journalists of the American newspaper The New York Times refutes Russia’s claim that the killing of civilians in Buch occurred after the Russian soldiers left the city. Investigative journalists of the Bellingcat publication debunked Moscow’s attempts to distort the tragic
events in the Kyiv region.
